Test Process
Although the test process may vary from year to year, our current testing process consists of an interview board and a physical agility assessment. The physical assessment must be completed, at the minimum passing level, as required for entry into the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy.
Eligibility List
Successful Applicants are ranked on an eligibility list based upon the testing process. The eligibility list is then held by the Albany County Sheriff for a period of one year, or until the eligibility list is exhausted.
All detention deputy vacancies are filled from applicants on the eligibility is following a final personal interview with the sheriff.
Once a candidate is chosen, an offer of employment is given to the candidate contingent upon successful completing the following requirements:
- Satisfactory physical health and conditioning is required. The physical examination will be conducted by a physician of the Sheriff’s Office choosing and will include a drug screening. Eye sight must be correctable to 20/20.
- Successful completion of an oral and written psychological examination.
- Successful completion of an extensive background investigation.
Upon successfully completing the hiring examination process, a new Albany County Sheriff’s Office Detention Deputy will receive approximately 5 to 6 months of training (new Deputies with previous experience and POST certification may have a reduced training regimen).
The training includes:
- Attending the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas, WY to complete the 8 week Detention Officers Basic Course.
- Completing a minimum of 13 weeks in the field Training Officer Program. This program requires new deputies to conduct regular Detention Deputy Duties under the direct supervision and guidance of the Field Training Officers, conducted over all shifts.
- Successful completion of a probationary period of 1 year.
The next testing will be December 4th and 5th and will be located in the County Commissioner Room, Suite 105.
The written exam starts at 6 pm on Friday the 4th. After the written exam there will be a physical testing, so please come in physical testing attire.
The oral interviews will commence at 8 am on the 5th and more information on exact times will be given on Friday.
