Criminal Division

The Criminal Division of the Albany County and Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (ACAO) prosecutes felony and misdemeanor crimes that are violations of state statute. Felony criminal cases and juvenile matters are handled in the District Court. Misdemeanor cases are handled in the Circuit Court. The county and deputy prosecuting attorneys handle the felony and misdemeanor cases from the filing of charging documents through conviction and sentencing.

Victim Witness Advocates

Victim Witness Advocates of the ACAO work with the Deputy County and Prosecuting Attorneys on all crimes involving crimes against person, property, and abuse. Victim Witness Advocates keep victims and witnesses advised of the status of the case and of the court processes.

Victim Witness Advocates refer victims to the Albany County SAFE Project for financial assistance and filing of domestic violence, stalking, or sexual assault protection orders, and as needed, filing of applications for financial assistance through the State Victim Compensation fund.
