The Civil Division of the County and Prosecuting Attorney is "the County’s law firm."
Pursuant to Wyoming Statute § 18-3-302, the Civil Division provides legal counsel to the County, its elected officials, department heads, boards, and agencies. Additionally, they represent the interests of the County in state and federal court as well as a variety of administrative settings.
Service Areas
The Civil Division provides legal services and consultation to elected officials, department heads, boards, and agencies in numerous areas, including:
- Contracts
- Elections
- Employment and employee benefits
- Property tax
- Real property, easements, and rights-of-way
- Zoning and land use
- Public records requests
- Policies and procedures
Additional Responsibilities
- Involuntary hospitalization proceedings and directed outpatient commitment of individuals suffering from mental illness as provided by statute;
- Actions against employers who fail to comply with Wyoming Department of Workforce Services' orders to pay employee's unpaid wages;
- Actions pursuant to violations of the Albany County Zoning Resolution, including nuisances; and
- Violations of State public record or public meetings act requirements.
